I C S C N E W S ICSC President and CEO Michael P. Kercheval announced that he will retire the year after next. Kercheval, who will be 60 upon his planned retirement in Janu- ary 2016, has headed ICSC for 13 years, a period that saw the organization expand from about 40,000 members in 2001 to some 67,000 currently. ICSC has grown internationally, too, forging links with asso- ciations around the world. The organization now has members in 109 countries, and there is an ICSC event occurring some- where on just about every day of the year. Kercheval joined ICSC in 2000 and succeeded John T. Riordan as president and CEO in May 2001. He is only the third chief executive in the organization's 57-year history. Before that, he worked for 20 years in real estate investment bank- ing, most recently as a senior executive with Lend Lease Real Estate Investments. "While 2016 might seem like a long way away, I want to be certain that there is a smooth transition of leadership and that the process takes into consideration all of the opportunities that a change in leadership can create," Kercheval said in an announcement to the Board of Trustees, past trustees and ICSC staff. "On a quick personal note, with the last of my children now out of the house and a desire to allocate more of my time to some of my other interests, I had long ago set a goal to retire relatively early and to turn over the reins of this great associa- tion to the next generation of leaders." • Prestige Retail: Design and Development Perspectives on the High-End Luxury Goods Market, edited by Bing Wang and Richard Peiser, is a study of the interdependence between the design and development of retail real estate and the luxury re- tail markets that reviews how the latter have grown historically and continue to flourish today. Included are case studies of successful luxury retail buildings, written by prominent scholars and professionals. • Specialty Leasing in Shopping Centers, Second Edition, is for shopping center professionals interested in starting a specialty leasing program or improving an existing program to boost cen- ter revenue. The volume begins with a historical look at the advent and evolution of specialty leasing and is followed by physical layout and financial considerations, RMUs or kiosks, marketing the specialty leasing program, seasonal users, mer- chandise mix, outposting opportunities, components of a li- censing agreement, visual merchandising assistance and more. The book gives examples of the many types of retail and uses that may be encountered in a specialty leasing program — from kiosks, RMUs and vending units to in-line spaces, outdoor/ exterior uses and sponsorships — selling products ranging from jewelry to wireless services.
