Along with the rebounding population, the city is also witnessing renovation projects that have added street-level retail in the urban core. New mixed-use projects are in de- velopment throughout the city too, Cole says. To a large de- gree, the influx of younger residents is driving the retailer recruitment strategy. "We know that the Millennial shopping habits are different, so we're watching the market to adjust to those preferences," Cole said. "We're also seeing tremendous growth in the fast-casual dining sector." The city of Dana Point, Calif., is exhibiting on its own for the first time this year, having shared booth space with neighboring communities in past years. Dana Point has sev- eral mixed-use projects in the pipeline, and the show offers the Southern California coastal city a chance to draw tenants for those projects. "We also want to meet with progressive developers interested in doing business in Dana Point as we look to revitalize various areas of town through updated land-use regulations," said Kelly Reenders, the city's econom- ic development manager.
