Do you see similar opportunities in Europe to make existing theaters more productive? We see the market in Europe as a tremendous opportunity to deploy guest-favorite amenities that have a proven track re- cord of success. We will be rolling out AMC's guest-favorite amenities, including plush recliner seating, Coca-Cola Free- style machines and more premium large-format screens, like Imax and Dolby Cinema, in many of our locations in Europe. We've had great success in the United States with these ame- nities, and while they are becoming more prevalent in the United States, they're still relatively new in Europe. A popular media topic in recent years has been the fate of brick-and-mortar retail, and many stories paint a bleak pic- ture. Your industry has been dealing with a similar narrative for decades. What do you believe are the biggest misconcep- tions about your industry? Since its inception, this industry has been told that the next big thing would be the end of movie theaters. From the invention of television to VCRs to the expansion of cable to streaming and virtual reality, there are always going to be challenges to over- come and entertainment options with which we'll compete. But the movie industry is coming off its second straight record year at the North American box office and the fourth in five years. With the titles coming in 2017, we're all looking at an- other solid year ahead. We've invested hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. mov- iegoing, and we have plans to invest significantly more. We're making those investments because those enhancements are bringing people out to movie theaters. People want to come relax in a recliner, enjoy better food and have a beer or glass of wine. They want an incredible, premium experience. And they're willing to pay a little more for it. One of our industry's biggest strengths is that it didn't stay stagnant. The multitude of innovation and investment is serving the industry well and will continue to serve it well, both in the U.S. and around the world. What's your favorite AMC theater in which to catch a show? What's the last movie you saw there? I love all the AMC cinemas equally. Just like as a parent, it's im- possible for me to pick a favorite child. As for the last movie I saw, it was La La Land. I loved it, and saw it twice at two different AMC theaters in two different cities. n
