AT&T;'s Cricket Wireless is one such prepaid wireless network that is growing aggressively. Prepaid cellphone service is usually purchased at a flat fee for a certain number of minutes and data. The consumer usually owns the phone handset outright and does not have an annual service contract with the wireless carrier. AT&T; bought Cricket prepaid from Leap Wireless in 2013 for $1.2 billion and now operates about 3,800 exclusive, Cricket-branded stores.
