CITY CREEK CENTER, SALT LAKE CITY MAKING A SPLASH CITY CREEK CENTER IS THE ONLY ENCLOSED MALL TO OPEN IN THE U.S. IN YEARS By Steve McLinden SIX-YEAR DROUGHT OF ENCLOSED-MALL OPENINGS APPEARS to have ended with a flood of shoppers into downtown Salt Lake City's ornate City Creek Center. The 700,000-square-foot mall — part of a $1.5 billion, 23-acre urban community of retail, restaurant, residential and office space — drew at least 250,000 visitors over the course of its March 22–24 grand opening. "There may have been considerably more folks there, because we handed out 300,000 mall directories over the three days," said Karen MacDonald, a spokeswoman for Taubman Cen- ters, which co-developed and leases the mall.
