the biggest companies in the industry." Admission is free to RECon's pool- side opening reception, which runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Encore Beach Club, in the Wynn Las Vegas Hotel. The reception pro- vides an opportunity to network under the stars or to check out the booths and cabanas operated by many of RECon's sponsoring companies. The following evening, SPREE RECon will be host to a cocktail reception and Hall of Fame Awards presentation, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wynn Hotel. This also is free of charge. The U.S. MAXI Awards, which kick off at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Wynn, will recognize those events and programs that have demonstrated best practices in retail marketing and new media strate- gies as well as outstanding enhance- ments to shopping center net-operating incomes. Preregistration is required for the awards reception and can be com- pleted through JoAnn Laut, ICSC's di- rector of global awards, at jlaut@icsc.org. Returning conferees may notice that the Entertainment and Attractions Ar- cade, at the Marketplace Mall, is among the new attractions this year. This group of exhibitors reflects the growing impor- tance of entertainment providers in gen- erating foot traffic at retail properties. DreamWorks will give RECon attendees a chance to experience firsthand one of the latest concepts in entertainment attractions. DreamWorks is bringing to RECon the technology behind its holiday Santa Claus exhibits rolled out at select properties last year. By means of integrated video screens, tablets and other interactive tools, children were able to take a virtual, 15-minute "sleigh ride" — guided by Shrek — to the North Pole before meeting Santa in person. Also new this year is the Talent De- velopment Pavilion, in the Marketplace Mall. This combines exhibits, informa- tion sessions and services for visitors at various career stages — from those seek- ing employment to those out to sharpen their professional skills. Visitors will learn about university programs for real estate and retailing and also get résumé coaching with executive recruiter Ro- berta Rea, as well as participate in profes- sional development workshops. Many of the popular exhibition ele- ments of years past return this year, in- cluding the Cities of the World Pavilion, in the Central Hall, where government representatives will present their retail leasing and development opportunities; and the Finance Pavilion, in the Upper South Hall, a destination for mortgage help or accounting strategies. The Green Zone returns too, to the Marketplace Mall, as a hub of "eco- friendly" exhibitors; here attendees can find out about the latest products and technology available to aid them with their conservation programs.
